Magic and politics. An interesting combination for a book! The magic was very creative and blew me away. I loved the black goo. It gave more tension and engagement in the scenes. Though I’m not a huge fan of politics in a fiction book, it wasn’t too much here. It didn’t feel like the author was pushing anything. It helped that the President wasn’t a reflection of someone else and was completely made up. So, I was able to really enjoy the story and characters.
My favorite was Marvel. Such a super mom, she is! The mother daughter relationship was also relatable and realistic. I was rooting for them the whole time. I even caught my breath at the very end. So many things going on, and one thing in particular was so close to happening. It makes me wonder what will happen in the sequel. I have a feeling I’ll read that one much quicker.
There was a lot of background information, especially in the beginning half of Blessing’s Key. It caused the pacing to slow and took me longer to read. The background info was interesting and necessary for the characters and plot, but in some areas, it was just too slow for me. It got better as the story progressed, and I eventually got all the action I had craved for.
