Elemental Haiku by Mary Soon Lee

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Why isn’t this book more popular?

Okay, maybe not everyone enjoys poetry and not everyone enjoys non-fiction, BUT Elemental Haiku is refreshing. I wish I had read Mary Soon Lee’s work back in high school either in English or in Chemistry class. It would have been a fun, creative way to learn more about poetry and the elements of the periodic table.

Each poem is short (5, 7, 5 syllable lines) and each is about an element. At the end of each haiku, is a short paragraph to explain more about the element. Some of them have pictures! When I have kids (I plan to homeschool), I’m having them read this!
